Work is progressing well

Work on the exciting £1.9m Re-ordering Project in St Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray, is going very well and is now moving on apace.

The sub-floor has nearly all been laid with just a small area of the North Aisle and the centre of church and the porch to complete.

The work is due for completion on Friday, November 24th, meaning the first event to be held in the new-look church will be the Christmas Tree Festival, which runs this year from Friday, December 1st until Tuesday, December 5th. The church will be officially opened on Sunday, December 10th.

The new stained glass window, which will be installed in memory of benefactor John Plumb towards the end of the work, has been completed in Derek Hunt’s Limelight Studios at Medbourne. For more details of this click here.

Much of the organ has been removed to be rebuilt off site and the rest has been sheeted over to keep out the dust from other work taking place in St Mary’s. The new lights have been ordered and will be installed near to the end of the contract, probably around September or October.

Our fundraising target is £1,900,000 and funds currently stand at a stunning £1,676,451, so we have £223,549 still to go!  Take a look at some of the photographs showing the project’s progress.
